Whale Hunt: The Narrative of a Voyage by Nelson Cole Haley Harpooner in the Ship Charles W. Morgan 1849-1853
Published in Paperback by Mystic Seaport Museum Pubns (March, 1993)
Author: Nelson Cole Haley
Average review score:

A masterful story!
While it translates into a rollicking tale, "Whale Hunt" is the published real-life account of one of my great-great-grandfather's whaling adventures. The book recounts not only the adventure and danger of the hunt, but also the hard work, strange ports, and shipboard high jinks employed by the sailors to pass the long days at sea. You'd never expect that a common sailor would have been such an accomplished storyteller ... but so he was.

What Color Is Your Parachute? CD-ROM Edition
Published in CD-ROM by BumbleBee Technologies, Inc. (01 October, 1997)
Author: Richard Nelson Bolles
Average review score:

Great CD-Rom for job hunters and changers!
The CD-ROM version of "What Color Is Your Parachute" is fabulous -- I'd recommend it to anyone who knows exactly what they want to do for a living (for the job hunting tips) but especially for those who don't have a clue, or feel like they have too many great ideas to choose between. I thought I knew what I wanted to do, and after going through the flower exercises, I still learned new things about myself. It's so much easier doing the exercises right on the computer while you are reading, instead of pulling out a notebook and pencil each time (and then not being able to find the notebook the next time, etc.). Dick's video and sound clips helped stimulate my imagination, and the prioritizing exercises always yielded illuminating results. The graphics are great - no boring spreadsheet-looking tables to fill in, just fun white boards and legal pads. And don't forget to print out your "flower" for hanging!

I just can't say enough about this book. Even putting aside the year date on the cover, this book is just JAM-PACKED with wonderful information for anyone wanting to change careers or anyone looking for a job! Not only is the book very helpful and informative, it is very entertaining as well, with cartoons, jokes and quotes that make the reading seem more pleasurable than research.

Excellent guide to disease and symptoms; easy to use,but old
I was a paramedic in South Korea 30 years ago and used a WHO text as a guideline. This book is better, but needs to be updated. No mention of AIDS and more recent illnesses. Any suggestions on similar books or is this one being readied for another printing?

Supplement with The Complete Guide to the Book of Proverbs.
Who Was Who in the Bible is a great reference resource with lots of entertaining black & white biblical cartoons written in 1999. The commentary shows how to pronounce the people's names and tells what their names meant. Most Scripture quotations are from the New King James Version. The comments are interesting and concise. If you enjoy this book you may also like THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO THE BOOK OF PROVERBS by Cody Jones. Numerous biblical characters are pointed out who illustrate King Solomon's witty observations on human nature.

A 'must have' for all Willie buffs.
This is a long-overdue major work on Willie's recording career - meticulously researched and beautifully presented. It gives fascinating insights into the background of many of the recordings - obtained from studio session notes and from the recollections of Willie himself, his management team and fellow artistes. Thanks a million Steve Opdyke (et al).

Windows on the War
Published in Paperback by Macedon Publishing Co. (15 February, 2002)
Author: Leland Carl Nelson
Average review score:

An Exciting Story
I found "Window on the War" by Leland Nelson just that. This is an exciting story of a nineteen-year-old Oklahoma boy in World War II. Nelson was atttached in France to a forward observer's susnit, and the danger was immediate when his unit started placing their telescopes in towers, churches, and other high places to pinpoint the enemy. From Normandy into Germany, the daily risk of detection by plane or foot patrol heightened the danger and suspense for day-to-day survival. As the months drag on, the men learn to deal with their emotions a well as those of their fellow soldiers, family, and friends. "Windows" gives the eader an excellent idea of how it was to live as a foot soldier during the war. Highly recommended.
